กรณีที่ไม่ใช้ Article

1. ชื่อมื้ออาหาร เช่น breakfast
2. ชื่อทะเลสาป, ภูเขา เช่น Lake Superior
3. ชื่อภาษา, ชื่อวิชา เช่น French, Mathematics
4. ชื่อวัน เช่น Wednesday
5. เทศกาล, ฤดู เช่น Christmas, Easter, spring, summer, winter
6. ชื่อเมือง, รัฐ, ประเทศ เช่น Texas, Thailand
7. ชื่อทวีป เช่น Asia, Europe
8. นามนับไม่ได้ และนามพหูพจน์, นามไม่มีตัวตน, นามที่บอกวัสดุ ไม่ใช้ a และ an เช่นtigers, life, wood 
9. สำนวนเกี่ยวกับ bed, home, work ต่อไปนี้ไม่ใช้ the คือ go to bed, in bed, finish work, start work, at work, go home, at home
10. คำนามต่อไปนี้ ในความหมายปกติไม่ใช้ the แต่ถ้าใช้ในความหมายอื่นจะใช้ the ได้แก่bed, church, court, prison, hospital, market, class, school, college, university เช่น
- go to bed = ไปนอน แต่ go to the bed = ไปที่เตียง
- go to prison = ถูกขังคุก แต่ go to the prison = ไปที่คุก(เพื่อไปทำอย่างอื่นไม่ได้ไปเพื่อถูกขัง)
11. ไม่ใช้ article ตามหลัง kind of, sort of, type of, make of, brand of, variety of, species of, เช่น this brand of cigarette
12. Verb ที่เกี่ยวข้องกับการแต่งตั้ง คัดเลือก คือ appoint, choose, elect, select หรือmake ให้บุคคลใดบุคคลหนึ่งได้ดำรงตำแหน่งที่มีเพียงตำ แหน่งเดียว ไม่ต้องใช้ articleหน้าตำแหน่งนั้น เช่น
- He was made President.
